Chicago, IL – October 1, 2024 – The CPASS Foundation Board of Directors is proud to announce Dr. Trevonne M. Thompson as the recipient of the prestigious 2024 John Bradley Award for Inspirational Leadership. Dr. Thompson, a tenured professor of Emergency Medicine and Medical Toxicology at the University of Illinois Chicago and Associate Dean for Admissions at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, has been recognized for his remarkable dedication to increasing diversity in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Medicine) fields through his inspirational leadership and mentorship.
The John Bradley Award, named in honor of the Mr. John Bradley, recognizes individuals who have shown exceptional leadership in attracting, encouraging, and guiding underrepresented students in their pursuit of STEMM careers. Since its inception, this award has celebrated leaders who embody Bradley’s legacy of lifelong mentorship and community service.
“Dr. Trevonne Thompson exemplifies what this award stands for. His work in shaping the careers of underrepresented students in medicine and his passion for creating opportunities for others align perfectly with the mission of the CPASS Foundation,” said Dr. Eric E. Whitaker, Board Chair of the CPASS Foundation. “His impact as a mentor and leader is felt not only in Chicago but throughout the nation, and we are honored to celebrate his many contributions.”
Throughout his career, Dr. Thompson has played a pivotal role in advancing diversity within medical education, while also maintaining a distinguished career as a physician and researcher. In response to receiving this award, Dr. Thompson said, “It is a true honor to be recognized with the John Bradley Award. The work we do to ensure the next generation of underrepresented students has access to health careers is critically important. I am proud to continue the legacy of John Bradley and will strive to expand our impact on the communities we serve.”
Dr. Thompson will be formally recognized and a panelist at the CPASS Foundation’s Annual STEMM Pathways to Health Equity Breakfast, scheduled for October 5, 2024, at the University of Chicago. The symposium will gather leaders from across the Illinois health sector to hear from keynote speaker, Dr. Barbara Ross-Lee, AOF Project Future Initiative Director and AACOM Adaptive Committee on Health Inequities Chair, to discuss further diversifying health professions, and to honor the legacy of CAHMCP (Chicago Area Health and Medical Careers™ Program), which is celebrating its 45th anniversary.
